Description
Contemporary Applied Arts is London's original multi-disciplinary applied arts gallery, founded in 1948. It began elsewhere in the city and now works from Marylebone. The purpose is simple: to champion British craft and put people in front of work by leading makers. Expect curated exhibitions and a considered retail selection across ceramics, jewellery, textiles, glass, wood and metal. The space is calm and easy to walk, and staff explain technique, materials and care so choices feel informed.
The gallery's depth comes from its membership model and a long history of public engagement, with the team curating across disciplines with an eye on design and making skill. Regular shows and a changing display keep the offer fresh. It is a registered charity and a regulated company with transparent governance, and it recently marked 75 years. In Marylebone this adds up to a dependable place to see well-made work, get real product knowledge and leave with clear documentation, sizing where it matters and advice on display and upkeep.
