Bryanston Mews East is a cobbled cul-de-sac running off Montagu Place in the northern part of Marylebone, within the Portman Estate Conservation Area. The mews sits close to the Embassy of Switzerland and comprises two- and three-storey properties with a varied mix of roof and facade styles, reflecting different phases of development and conversion. Originally built to provide stable and coach house accommodation for the surrounding streets, it is now entirely residential. The Portman family acquired this land in 1532 and began laying out the estate in earnest from 1755; Bryanston Mews East is one of the quieter service lanes that survives from that grid.
