Gray's Yard
Gray's Yard is a short gated cul-de-sac on the western side of James Street, running between Oxford Street and Wigmore Street in the heart of Marylebone (W1U). The yard is residential in character, with flats occupying the upper floors of the surrounding buildings. It sits within the Howard de Walden Estate's southern reaches, close to Bond Street underground station. The yard offers a degree of privacy unusual this close to Oxford Street, and has no notable commercial use. Like many such yards in Marylebone, it reads as a service entry that gradually converted to residential over the twentieth century.
