Kenrick Place is a short street in Marylebone running parallel to Baker Street, one block to the east. It carries the postcode W1U 6HD and sits within the Portman Estate, the landholding that covers the western section of Marylebone from Oxford Street northward.
The street was formerly known as Dorset Mews East, a name consistent with its origins as a service passage behind the larger residential streets of the Portman Estate. A makeshift French chapel is recorded as having stood on the corner of what was then Dorset Mews East as early as 1792, suggesting the passage was established by the later eighteenth century as part of the estate's Georgian development phase.
The renaming to Kenrick Place reflects the broader pattern of Portman Estate street renaming that occurred during the mid-twentieth century, as mews addresses were upgraded in character following changes to the estate's ownership structure.
The existing building stock on Kenrick Place includes a converted warehouse comprising two adjoined properties, notable for generous ceiling heights and exposed brickwork. The building has been adapted into flexible office use, which is characteristic of the area immediately west of Baker Street. This pocket of Marylebone, just removed from the main commercial thoroughfares, is typical of the Portman Estate's quieter backstreets, where Georgian service infrastructure has been gradually repurposed for professional and commercial occupiers.
