La Fromagerie

La Fromagerie

La Fromagerie has been on Moxon Street since November 2002, when founder Patricia Michelson opened in Marylebone after building a following at an earlier Highbury shop. Three decades of experience sit behind the counter, with an approach built on seasonality, provenance and patient maturation. The signature is the walk-in cheese room, where everything is held and shown at peak condition. The buying runs from British farmhouse producers to classic European appellations, and a wholesale arm supplies kitchens across the city. Inside there is a café and a cheese and wine bar, with simple plates, toasted sandwiches and seasonal sides. An in-house affineur helps you choose by milk type, region, texture and age, then packs for travel or gifts. Private tastings and ticketed events run on site, and corporate orders are handled the same way. Locals use it for everyday treats and weekend tables, while chefs and buyers rely on the wholesale service. Among Marylebone's independent food shops, it keeps good cheese at the centre of things.

The Ginger Pig

The Ginger Pig

The Ginger Pig has been part of Marylebone since 2003, when it opened its first shop on Moxon Street after building a following at Borough Market. Founded by Tim Wilson, the business grew out of North Yorkshire farming and a belief in raising native British breeds with care. That farm-to-shop approach still runs the counter: carcasses come in whole, meat is properly hung, and the team cuts to order. Two decades on, the shop remains a touchstone for customers who want clear provenance and proper butchery. Expect a warm, busy counter, sound advice on cuts and cooking, and a daily selection running from dry-aged beef and well-bred pork to lamb, sausages, pies and stocks. The hot deli counter pulls a steady lunchtime crowd, and evening butchery classes give curious cooks some hands-on skills. Special-occasion orders are prepared to specification, and the shop is a reliable stop for weekday suppers and weekend roasts alike. Set among Marylebone's food-focused streets, it keeps good meat at the centre of the table.

All About

Moxon Street

Moxon Street is a short street within Marylebone Village, running parallel to and south of Marylebone High Street, within the Howard de Walden Estate. Until 1936 it was known as Paradise Street, a name derived from a former burial ground in the vicinity. The change of name was made to avoid confusion with other streets of the same name elsewhere in London.

The street is best known in the contemporary neighbourhood for its Marylebone Farmers Market, which takes place on Sundays and is one of the most established weekly markets of its kind in central London. The market draws producers from across southern England and has been a fixture of the local food culture for a number of years, reinforcing Marylebone's reputation for independent retail and quality food traders.

A significant recent addition is Marylebone Square, a mixed-use development by E8 Architecture completed in late 2023, which replaced the former Moxon Street car park. The scheme combines residential apartments with boutique retail units, restaurants and a community hall that provides a permanent home for the farmers market. The development has brought renewed pedestrian activity to a street that sits immediately behind the retail frontage of Marylebone High Street, reinforcing the close-knit character of Marylebone Village.
