Wheatley Street is a short residential street in central Marylebone, carrying the postcode W1G 8PS and measuring approximately 72 metres in length. It lies within the City of Westminster and is part of the Marylebone ward. The street sits close to Wigmore Street to the south and within comfortable walking distance of the retail and restaurant offer along Marylebone High Street to the west.
The street belongs to the broader grid of Marylebone streets developed during the Georgian era, when the landholdings of the Harley and Portland families were progressively built out from the 1730s onwards. The tight, well-proportioned scale of Wheatley Street reflects the residential character of this part of the estate. It is not a thoroughfare street and generates relatively little through traffic, qualities that have helped sustain its predominantly residential character.
Today the street is known chiefly as a quiet address in a neighbourhood where property is predominantly Victorian or Edwardian in conversion but Georgian in plan. The immediate surroundings offer the amenities of Marylebone Village, including independent shops and restaurants, with Regent's Park accessible on foot to the north. The nearest London Underground station is Bond Street, served by the Central and Jubilee lines, making Wheatley Street straightforwardly connected to the wider city despite its understated, local feel.
